Barcelona set sights on Yaser Asprilla
Now, SPORT is reporting that Barcelona have taken an interest in 20-year-old Colombian attacking midfielder Yaser Asprilla, who plays for Watford in England.
Asprilla signed for Watford from Colombian outfit Envigado in January 2022, in a loan deal which was made permanent in the summer of that year for €3 million.
The 20-year-old is a versatile attacking player who can feature anywhere in the final third of the pitch and has developed into a fine prospect in the EFL Championship – England’s second division.
In 34 matches this season, Asprilla has produced a tally of six goals and five assists in all competitions and has managed to catch the eye of the Barcelona technical staff.
The Colombian is known for his innate dribbling skills, and is one of the biggest stars in the second tier of English football. It is believed that Barça think highly of young Asprilla and that he is ready to make the step up to the elite.
Asprilla to cost €40-50 million
Given his performances this season, Barcelona have taken a liking to Asprilla, but also believe that the youngster is likely to attract interest from the Premier League as well.
According to reports from Colombia, Watford will not accept a transfer for less than €40-50 million for the young attacker.
The Hornets will look for a similar deal to that of Joao Pedro, the young Brazilian who arrived for €4 million and was sold to Brighton & Hove Albion after two-and-a-half years for a record transfer of €34 million.
