Barcelona set to miss out on teenage Spanish defensive prodigy

Barcelona are tracking a whole host of young talents within Spain and outside as they continue to look for ways to strengthen their squad at the first-team level and through the academy.

It has seen the Catalans get linked to various young prospects, with the La Liga champions even poised to sign a couple of former Real Madrid academy talents.

However, they are now likely to miss out on of their young targets, if a report from SPORT’s Toni Juanmarti is to be believed.

Barcelona to miss out on Ruben Torres

Indeed, as per the report, Barcelona are set to miss out on the signing of teenage Mallorca defensive prospect Ruben Torres.

Born in 2008, the young defender is already playing with the Juvenil B team at Mallorca despite belonging to the Cadete age group.

His progress and potential alerted Barcelona, who made moves in the last few days to try to sign the young prospect.

However, the Catalan giants were too late and will not be able to secure the services of the promising player, as he has agreed to sign for Valencia.

Torres had been attracting the interest of several teams apart from Barcelona, including Girona and Sevilla.

However, the club that made the quickest move for the centre-back was Valencia, who presented a plan and a satisfactory proposal for the player.

As per the report, Barcelona approached Torres’ entourage shortly after he had said yes to Valencia. While the youngster’s camp was grateful for the move but stressed that they were already committed to Los Che.

Barcelona will continue tracking Torres

The report further adds that while Barcelona might have missed out on Ruben Torres, they intend to keep tracking his progress at Valencia, once he joins them in the summer.

The teenager’s progress has done enough to convince the Catalans to keep following him as he could emerge as a target in the near future again.
