After news emerged of Barcelona beating Real Madrid and Manchester City to the imminent signing of Marcos Parriego, it appears that the Catalans are set to land yet another talented Spanish teenager.
Indeed, as per journalist Rodra P, Barcelona are all set to secure the services of another former Real Madrid academy talent, Byron Mendoza, from CD Leganes.
At Barça, the motto is clear to counteract the club’s delicate economic situation: to try to detect talent as early as possible, especially on national territory, and for this reason, they have been exhaustively following the stars of the future also in the Community of Madrid.
The Blaugrana have already secured the services of Parriego, another ex-Real Madrid academy man, from Rayo Vallecano. They are now set to land yet another talent in the form of 14-year-old Byron Mendoza from Leganes.
Who is Byron Mendoza?
Byron Mendoza was part of Real Madrid’s La Fabrica several years ago and has been making waves since a very young age. The 14-year-old had reports done on him by the biggest media outlets in Spain even when he was just seven years old.
However, Real Madrid decided to release him as questions arose over his progression. After leaving Valdebebas he spent a year at Rayo Vallecano and now plays for the Cadete B team of Leganes, where he is shining.
Byron is a left winger of great quality, with a knack for scoring goals and for linking up with his teammates. He has been standing out for months in the Leganes youth team, alerting Barcelona, who have now swooped in to sign him.
Barcelona beat Real Madrid, again
Like with Marcos Parriego, Barcelona have once again beaten Real Madrid to the signing of Byron Mendoza.
Los Blancos have been keen on re-signing their former academy ace and have been working to make it happen since last October.
To do so, they contacted the promising player’s grandfather and told him that they wanted the 14-year-old to return.
However, despite their best attempts, the player and his entourage opted for Barcelona in the end.
Using the examples of Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí, Gavi, and Alejandro Balde, all of whom are already first-team stars, Barcelona are being able to win over the youngest talents in Spain, in addition to significant financial offers to convince the players’ entourage.
At the Blaugrana club, they are very optimistic about the progression of Byron and are very aware that right now the priority is for him to adapt as well as possible to his new life in Barcelona.
