According to SPORT, Barcelona want to speed up the process of hiring a new manager now that the team has finished its journey in the UEFA Champions League.

The report mentions that Barcelona’s unexpected exit from the Champions League has prompted a swift shift in focus towards next season’s plans.

The blow caught everyone off guard, but within the club, there’s a shared belief that it’s time to take decisive action, especially with the current season well underway and goals already taking shape.

Decision expected soon

It is said that both the board and the sports management are now aiming to outline the blueprint for the next phase post this weekend’s crucial Clasico against Madrid.

While they remain committed to battling for the league title until the last whistle, they recognize the urgency to make pivotal decisions.

As of today, the prospect of Xavi continuing as a coach has now lost some steam, while internally, Rafa Marquez’s candidacy is gaining traction.

Barcelona were optimistic

It must be remembered that Barcelona found themselves at a standstill in their quest for a new coach following a hectic February. Sporting director Deco explored various options in the market, reaching out to potential fits.

With a list of available coaches in hand, the club awaited a decision. However, Joan Laporta intervened, halting the process with a belief that Xavi could bring about something extraordinary, giving him another year of support.

The Champions League exit dealt a severe blow, not only in sporting terms but also economically and emotionally.

There was a strong belief that Barcelona could have reached the semifinals or even the final given their recent form. However, with this setback, the search for a coach will resume from where it left off.

After the Clasico this weekend, the sports department wants to make a decision that will shape the future. They will talk to Xavi one last time, but it looks like they will pick a new coach to start a fresh sporting era, with Deco playing a big role.

Probably by late April or May, they will announce the decision and start planning changes to the squad, including selling some players to bring in top talent and balance the team.
