Barcelona are moving swiftly in regards to their plans to tie down the future of star players, with the club eyeing several renewals over the course of the next few months.
Earlier in the summer, Barça renewed the contract of young midfield prodigy Marc Bernal. Latest reports indicate Fermin Lopez may soon follow suit.
The Spaniard is likely to sign a contract extension until 2029, which will include a salary hike as well as an updated release clause.
Barcelona eyeing four more renewals
According to Fabrizio Romano, the renewal of Fermin Lopez won’t be the end of the road for Barcelona, in their efforts to build a core in the years to come.
As per the Italian journalist, Barça are eyeing at least four more renewals in the coming months.
The four players in question are Pedri, Gavi, Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong, all established stars who have a high valuation in the market.
Barcelona’s recent efforts to tie down Pedri to a new contract have been well documented. Initial talks have taken place, especially with other clubs sniffing around, and everything points towards an agreement being reached.
The same stands for Gavi. In fact, Pedri and Gavi will be two of Barcelona’s priority renewals, as both are considered indispensable in midfield.
The case for Araujo and de Jong, however, is quite interesting. Both players have been linked with a move away from Catalonia over the past year or so.
Yet, Barcelona remain keen on extending their deals, knowing they cannot afford either of them to run down their contracts, which in turn, could lead to lowered valuations.
