The Nico Williams saga has been very exhausting for the Barcelona offices and the fact that the Athletic Club star appears nowhere close to pushing for a move does not help their cause.

With limited time remaining on the transfer market, the Catalans have thus opted to turn towards alternative options.

Of the various names on Joan Laporta’s table, one that tempts the management and the administration is Liverpool star Luis Diaz.

Not for the first time

Barcelona have been linked with the Colombian forward for a long time now, and in fact, were rumoured to be in his pursuit even earlier this year.

The history between the two parties, however, goes far back to the winter transfer window of 2021/22 as revealed by Moises Llorens.

Barcelona were close to signing Diaz at the time, especially with Xavi looking for a massive overhaul during his initial days at the club. The club had come to an agreement with the player and it all seemed set in stone.

At the last minute, however, the club changed direction and preferred signing Ferran Torres over Diaz. Needless to say, the Spaniard has not enjoyed the impact he would have liked to at the club.

The current situation

With Nico all but ruled out, Barcelona see Diaz as a favourable candidate once more, albeit this time with renewed seriousness.

The Spanish journalist furthers that the Colombian’s arrival at the moment appears complicated, although he would be the best option should the transaction work out.

Playing as a left-winger for Liverpool last season, the 27-year-old forward made 37 league appearances including 32 starts. In that duration, he recorded eight goals and five assists in addition to creating five big chances.
