Ever since the transfer market came to a close, the Barcelona board has been very focused on building the core of the group and try and complete contract registrations of key players.
During this period, the club maintained that achieving the 1:! rule will remain an issue even in the upcoming January transfer window, which is why the club have been seldom linked with a move for a new player.
However, all of that has slightly changed following the injury of Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Although the club roped in Wojciech Szczesny back from retirement, there is still a feeling at Barcelona that the club must sign a new goalkeeper.
Lucas Chevalier emerges as an option
With the January transfer window merely a couple of months away, names have started popping up in the Barcelona circles.
According to Miguel Rico, one of them is Lucas Chevalier, with the club reportedly sounding out the possibility of signing the young Frenchman in the near future.
Aged just 22, Chevalier currently plies his trade for LOSC Lille. Despite his age, Chevalier has already established himself as the undisputed first-team regular at Lille and has almost 100 competitive appearances for the club.
Chevalier, in fact, is regarded as one of the most talented young goalkeepers in world football. Barcelona, therefore, are naturally attracted to the idea of signing the Frenchman.
Chevalier, after all, can be a great signing for Barcelona as he can possibly emerge as the long-term replacement for ter Stegen.
However, acquiring the services of the Frenchman will be difficult as Chevalier still has a contract at Lille until 2027.
Interestingly, Barcelona have also been linked with a move for another Lille star in the form of Jonathan David. The Canadian international is a much more realistic target for the Blaugrana as his contract at Lille expires at the end of the season.
