Barcelona squad ‘exhausted’ and ‘fed up’ with the club environment – report

A lot has been said in recent years about Barcelona’s mismanagement of club legends, be it Lionel Messi’s anti-climactic departure or Luis Suarez’s phone-call farewell notification.

The board’s management of Xavi’s situation over the past few weeks, on that front, has been nothing short of disgraceful. Just weeks after coercing the legend to reconsider his decision to leave and reversing the same, Joan Laporta and Co have gone on to sack Xavi.

The environment in Catalonia, thus, is far from peaceful with players and fans puzzled over the erratic moves made by the administration.

Players are fed up

A recent report from Alex Pintanel reveals that the Barcelona dressing room is exhausted and fed up with the situation at the club and even back the current manager over the unfair treatment faced by him.

The season has not been easy for the Blaugrana as they went trophy-less and gifted away a promising lead to PSG in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Champions League.

The incessant drama in the club, they believe, does not cease nor let them sleep peacefully with any form of clarity over the future.

The players feel pressurised and criticised for their every move and see the board to have crossed the line on multiple occasions.

After all, handling a toxic environment added to the pressure of playing for one of the biggest clubs is far from simple.

Need for clarity

Frenkie de Jong has openly lashed out at the media for spreading false news about his contract and creating internal clashes, but the Dutchman’s situation is only one of the innumerable stories in Catalonia in recent years.

One must remember that Pep Guardiola left Barcelona citing a similar reason, and the same has been reiterated by most coaches to have tasted life in Catalonia.

Luis Enrique, Ernesto Valverde, Quique Setien and Ronald Koeman are some of the latest examples.

What the Azulgrana dressing room requires at this time, thus, is some peace of mind and clarity of thought heading into the summer transfer window. Transparency, after all, goes a long way.
