Lamine Yamal’s contract situation at Barcelona will be revisited soon in the coming months, claims a report from The Athletic

The young star, who signed a new deal with the club in October last year, is currently tied to Barcelona until the summer of 2026, with an impressive €1 billion release clause. However, things have evolved significantly since the previous extension.

When Yamal originally extended his contract, it was agreed that the terms would be reviewed again when he turned 18, which would be in July 2025.

However, this agreement was made before Yamal’s rise to stardom for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team. His rapid development has led his representatives, including Jorge Mendes, to reconsider the timing of these discussions.

New rounds of discussion expected

It is reported that Yamal’s representatives now view the agreement to wait until next summer as outdated, given his meteoric rise.

As a result, Mendes is expected to meet with Barcelona president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco in the near future to discuss the terms of Yamal’s contract renewal.

Despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Yamal is believed to be content at Barcelona and is eager to continue his career at the club. Barcelona, for their part, are planning to finalise the renewal process starting in November, with Yamal’s future being a top priority.

Barcelona will need to revisit the finances

While the club has already reached a verbal agreement to extend his contract until 2030, Yamal’s increasing influence within the team will likely lead to a review of the financial terms.

The club will need to carefully consider the financials of his new contract, especially given the player’s growing stature. His representatives are expected to push for improved terms that reflect his importance to both Barcelona and Spain.

In the coming months, we can expect further talks as both sides aim to secure a deal that benefits both the player and the club.
