Barcelona have not missed the presence of captain and key defender Ronald Araujo this season with Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez stepping up brilliantly.

However, the Blaugrana are eagerly awaiting the return of one of their most important players as he gets closer and closer to making his comeback from a lengthy injury layoff.

Araujo has been out of action since July when he suffered an injury while playing for Uruguay against Brazil in Copa America.

Having undergone surgery, the 25-year-old has been working hard at his rehabilitation, pushing to return earlier than the four-to-five-month recovery period mentioned initially.

Now, Araujo is continuing to make positive progress in his recovery, and Barcelona shared a video on Friday that reflects another step in his recovery process.

The clip shared on the club’s social media channels shows the Uruguayan defender running continuously on the grass and performing strength and movement exercises.

As has recently been reported, if there are no hiccups and things continue like this, Araujo could be in a position to return to action later this month.

In fact, it is not entirely ruled out that the Uruguayan international could be back in the game against Celta Vigo right after the international break or a few days later when Barcelona face Brest in the UEFA Champions League.

The defender will have to fight for his place in the starting XI given that the Cubarsi-Martinez partnership has been simply brilliant for Barça.

But having one of the leaders and best players back to fitness and available for selection will be a huge boost for Hansi Flick and Barcelona.
