Last night against Young Boys, Ansu Fati played his first home game for FC Barcelona after a period of over 13 months.
Indeed, the 21-year-old forward’s last appearance in a home match for the Blaugrana came way back on August 20, in a 2-0 win over Cadiz, when he came on as a substitute for the last twenty minutes or so.
The La Masia ace then went on to join Brighton & Hove Albion on a loan deal until the end of the season, before returning to Barça this past summer.
However, an injury in pre-season meant that Fati ended up missing the first five matches of the 2024/25 season, before eventually making his return against AS Monaco last month – away from home.
Following that, the 21-year-old attacker did not get any minutes in Barça’s subsequent three La Liga games against Villarreal (A), Getafe (H), and Osasuna (A).
As such, last night’s appearance, when he came on to replace Pedri in the 64th minute, marked his first home game since August last year.
Fati thanks fans for support
Fati was greeted with a great cheer by the Barcelona fans when he stepped out onto the pitch as the supporters showed their love and support for a player who was once tipped as the future of the team but has lost his way somewhat due to injuries.
Following the match, Ansu took to social media, where he thanked the Culers for their support, while also remarking how he is enjoying being back on the pitch in front of them.
Along with a series of pictures of his appearance, Fati wrote: “Important victory! Enjoying you guys again! Thank you Culers!”
It was not the best of games from Fati as he failed to do much of note in the 26 minutes he was on the field.
But the youngster needs these minutes to build up his fitness and confidence again after enduring a difficult year.
