We are just days away from the start of the Paris Olympics, with Barcelona starlet Pau Cubarsi being one of the players worth keeping an eye on.

After narrowly missing out on the Spain squad for Euro 2024, the Barcelona defender is all set to represent his nation in the Olympics, alongside fellow teammates Fermin Lopez and Eric Garcia.

Speaking ahead of the start of the Olympics, Pau Cubarsi talked about his rapid rise to prominence while also shedding light on Spain’s preparations.

“We are very excited and preparing for the first match in a long time. We are excited because it can be a great tournament and we will approach it with great desire and ambition,” said Cubarsi, who is vying for a place in defence along with Garcia.

“We always aim for the maximum, we are Spain and we always have to do that, if we compete and play well we will have a great tournament,” he added.

Cubarsi went on to talk about Spain’s success in Euro 2024, with La Roja beating England to lift the tournament for the first time in 2012.

“We followed the European Cup, which was a source of pride for all Spaniards. We have a great desire to try to achieve the double, which will be something historic,” he said.

Talking about his experience in the Olympic Village, Cubarsi offered some key details while also expressing his love for the Olympic games.

“We were in the Olympic Village these four days, there is a good atmosphere and you can see other athletes and other working methods,” he said. “I enjoy the Olympic Games to the fullest because I love them and have always wanted to be here.”

The young centre-back also talked about his rapid breakthrough at Barcelona over the past 12 months and how his success at Barça helped him secure a place in Spain’s Olympic squad.

“A year ago I honestly couldn’t have imagined being here,” the defender reflected while also adding the similarities between Barcelona and the Spanish national team when it comes to tactics and style of play.
