Vitor Roque is on the cusp of leaving FC Barcelona, having fallen out of favour at the club. The youngster failed to make an impression in pre-season and as such was not involved in the Joan Gamper Trophy match and the La Liga opener vs Valencia.

With no place for him in Hansi Flick’s plans, the 19-year-old is eagerly waiting to finalise his next move, with Sporting CP appearing as his most likely destination.

Roque gets Brazil U-20 call-up

Amidst all the doom and gloom over his disappointing situation at Barcelona, Vitor Roque has been offered a ray of happiness by the Brazilian Under-20 national team.

Indeed, according to Mundo Deportivo, Vitor Roque has been called up by Ramon Menezes for the Brazil U-20 squad for two friendlies against Mexico, set to be played on 5 and 8 September at the Estadio São Januário, home of Vasco da Gama.

The centre-forward is scheduled to start training with Brazil on 2 September and this training camp is part of the preparations for the South American U-20 Championship to be played in January in Peru.

Roque’s call-up to the Brazil U-20 squad is bound to come as somewhat of a relief for the striker after learning that he is not part of Barça’s plans this season.

Having not been registered with La Liga, the teenager is patiently waiting to finalise his departure from the club so as to put this nightmare behind him and start afresh elsewhere.

It is worth remembering that Roque was one of the stars of the last South American Under-20 Championship and was the tournament’s top scorer with six goals. And, he will hope to star again at the event after a forgettable few months at Barcelona.
