Barcelona midfielder Pedri’s injury woes continued this past weekend when he picked up a serious knock during the game against Valencia.
It was a heartbreaking incident for the Barcelona fans and indeed, the player himself, who had only returned from a long injury layoff.
Shortly after the game, it was reported that Pedri’s injury looked serious and he could be out for a period of up to five to six weeks.
Pedri to be ruled out until next season
However, a fresh report from Bar Canaletes has suggested Pedri could be sidelined for a much longer period.
In fact, the report suggests Pedri might be ruled out of action throughout the remainder of the campaign and won’t be expected to be back until next season.
This would serve as a massive blow for Barcelona, who also have Gavi sidelined for the rest of the season. The young midfielder is expected to come back around the start of the pre-season.
That means Barça will essentially be without the services of two of their finest talents during the early parts of next season.
Pedri likely to miss Euros
Given this injury timeframe, everything suggests Pedri will not be available for the upcoming European Championships.
This will take a significant mental toll on the player, who has had to spend 400 days on the sidelines since his first injury.
Barcelona will try and convince Pedri to opt for surgery rather than trying the conservative treatment, in order to speed up the recovery process.
It is important that the club do not allow Pedri to make the same mistake once made by another young player, Ansu Fati.
Pedri, for his part, remains upbeat and has recently acknowledged the love and support received from his supporters.
