Barcelona will have some tough decisions to make this summer as they look to trim the squad without degrading the quality of the team too much.
While the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araujo have been linked with potential exits, one player Barcelona do count on is Sergi Roberto.
The club have informed Roberto of their desire to renew his contract, which will expire at the end of the season.
Barcelona make the first move
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have reiterated their desire to keep hold of Sergi Roberto. They are willing to hand the veteran a fresh one-year contract that would keep him at Camp Nou until 2025.
It appears Barça are more than happy with Roberto’s performances. He has played a crucial role in multiple matches, whereas his identity as a leader of the dressing room plays a crucial role in maintaining harmony within the camp.

The two parties are set to discuss the terms of Roberto’s new contract and as things stand, the veteran would have no reason not to continue at Camp Nou.
Will Roberto take another pay cut?
Sergi Roberto has had to settle for multiple pay cuts in recent years in order to accommodate himself into Barcelona’s new wage structure.
Last summer, for example, Roberto had to take a pay cut in order to continue at Camp Nou. This time, however, Barcelona will not ask him to settle for another pay cut.
The Catalans will essentially offer Roberto the same salary, as his current package. It must be noted that Roberto does have other options, with the veteran being courted by clubs from MLS and Saudi Arabia.
A move away from Spain could see Roberto bag a significantly higher package, but everything suggests the Spaniard will listen to his heart and continue at Camp Nou.
