Nico Williams to Barcelona has been the transfer saga of the summer, with the Catalans eager to sign the Athletic Club winger after his explosive season last time out.

The Blaugrana have been patiently waiting for the Spanish international after having already tabled a contract offer for him while waiting in readiness to activate his €58 million release clause.

However, recent reports have claimed that Nico, despite wanting to join Barça, has reservations about being registered with La Liga, while the attachment he has with Athletic Club is also making him consider staying for one more season.

Back after vacation

Now, Gerard Romero reports that Nico Williams is back in Bilbao after his vacation and could soon decide on his next destination.

Nico had an extended holiday after helping Spain win the UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany last month. The 22-year-old winger spent some days of his vacation with Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal in Marbella.

Now, the Athletic Club winger is said to be back in Bilbao and as such a decision on his next move could very well be imminent.

Barcelona, for their part, are willing to wait until August 12, the day on which Nico is supposed to rejoin training with Athletic Club.

At the same time, they are also working on a deal for Dani Olmo, which is also not proving to be easy to finalise due to RB Leipzig’s demands.

With the season set to start in less than two weeks and only one new arrival thus far, Barcelona have their task cut out in the coming days in the transfer window.
