Barcelona target veteran PSG midfielder as Busquets replacement

Even so, the report also notes that Atletico Madrid and FC Porto are actively competing to enter the race.

Pereira, aged 32, is certainly past the peak of his powers but offers experience at the highest level and a ball-winning profile that appeals to most European powerhouses.

Moreover, the PSG player is adept at playing as a center-back, which is his primary position.

With a contract that expires next year, he is not anticipated to take a toll on the club’s finances, heightening the probability of a potential transfer.

Barcelona, for now, are set to keep their options open. The competition from other European sides may prove to be a deterrent, while Pereira’s lack of assurance in possession may also draw some resistance from sections of the sporting department.

Stefan Bajcetic has also emerged as a realistic acquisition for the Blaugranes, with the youngster reportedly high on the club’s agenda.
