Barcelona will once again be watching the free-transfer market closely in the summer transfer window to add new faces to their squad without making major investments.

As has already been reported, Hansi Flick & co. have several soon-to-be-free players on their agenda for 2025, one of whom happens to be LOSC Lille attacker Jonathan David.

The Canadian forward’s contract with the Ligue 1 club expires at the end of the season but Les Dogues are still making efforts to convince him to stay, as confirmed recently by club president Olivier Letang.

Jonathan David will leave in the summer

However, despite Lille’s best efforts, Jonathan David will leave the club as a free agent at the end of the ongoing season, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed.

The 24-year-old is not expected to sign a new deal with the Ligue 1 outfit in the coming weeks or months and everything points towards him moving on when his current contract expires.

As mentioned already, Barcelona are interested in signing David, as a possible backup and future replacement for ace goalscorer Robert Lewandowski.

However, the fact that the Canadian has been a key player at Lille for years and is now scoring goals in the UEFA Champions League as well, has seen him attract several suitors.

Indeed, Barcelona are set to face stiff competition in the race for David with Romano reporting that several clubs from the Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga are keen on signing the versatile attacker.

The interested parties have been reaching out to David’s entourage to keep themselves informed about any developments regarding his future.

Romano adds that David will not jump into any decisions immediately and will take his time and assess all the options on his table before narrowing in on his next move after Lille.

Barcelona, thus, will need to be proactive if they are keen on adding David to their ranks in the summer as the Canadian ace is expected to garner significant transfer interest given his contract situation.
