The race for the Spanish league title has gotten a lot more exciting than one would have expected during the first half of the season.

While Real Madrid still remain favourites to lift the title this season, they are being closely followed by Girona and Barcelona.

Girona are trailing Real Madrid by six points, but they have a game in hand, whereas Barcelona have showcased improved form in recent weeks.

Marc Guiu on the title race

Marc Guiu has been one of the most exciting young players to come out of La Masia this season.

At the age of just 18, the center-forward already has two competitive goals to his name. He has shown immense potential in the youth competitions as well, most notably starring in Barça Athletic’s recent win over Rayo Majadahonda.

Speaking to the media after the game, Marc Guiu was asked about the ongoing title race and whether or not there is hope for Barcelona to defend the league title.

The youngster sounded rather optimistic, especially after Real Madrid’s draw with Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

“There is always hope in the league and we are all focused on winning it. I think we are capable of that and the team is on the right track to put pressure on Real Madrid. I think we will achieve something at the end of the season,” Guiu said (h/t FCB World).

With just 13 matches remaining until the end of the season, Barcelona are trailing Real Madrid by eight points. The two teams will collide in April, which will serve as an opportunity for the Catalans to bridge the gap.

The club would also be required to win all their remaining matches in order to have any hopes of staging a late push for the title this season.
