It has been only a couple of months since Hansi Flick took charge of this FC Barcelona team but things are already looking very good for the Catalans under their new coach.

Four wins in their first four La Liga matches of the season, including a stunning 7-0 win over Real Valladolid last weekend means Barcelona are seated comfortably atop the table.

Flick, in his short time at the club, has made changes to the way Barça play, and they are paying off in a big way.

Pau Cubarsi on Hansi Flick’s start

Speaking in a recent interview with ESport3, Pau Cubarsi highlighted the changes that Hansi Flick has made at Barcelona and how that has impacted the team.

Praising his approach with the players, Cubarsi said: “Flick is a very close coach. He always tries to help you even off the pitch, and comes to you if you need anything.”

On the changes that the German tactician has implemented, the 17-year-old defender, who has been nominated for the Kopa Trophy, remarked:

“Maybe it’s not a change of mentality, but he has changed the fact that we are more positive and go after our opponents from the very first moment.”

Cubarsi did not do any pre-season under Flick as he was away with the Spanish national team for the Paris Olympics. As such, he admitted having doubts about whether he would get a chance under the new manager.

“I had the uncertainty of not knowing if I would start the matches. He trusted me. I am very grateful. I want to give 100 per cent so that he can continue to count on me,” he remarked.

On his remarkable growth over the past eight months with Barcelona and Spain, Cubarsi said:

“I still haven’t digested it. I try to do the same, to improve and help my teammates on and off the pitch. I’m very happy with what I’m achieving.”

The teenage centre-half also had some words of encouragement for teammate Fermin Lopez, who had to withdraw from the Spain Under-21 squad this week due to a thigh injury and is set to be out for three weeks.

“We’ve learned a lot in recent years. We need to stay calm; everything will be alright, and it should be a minor issue,” he said.

“We are with him to get through whatever is necessary. Right now, it’s best to be by his side and support him, and we will certainly find solutions.”
