Barcelona deserve plaudits for showing exceptional support towards star midfield prodigy Marc Bernal, especially after he picked up a season-ending injury.

Bernal, 17, is currently out with an ACL injury that has ruled him out for the entire season. This injury came on the back of an excellent start to the season, which saw many label him as the ideal replacement for Sergio Busquets.

Following Bernal’s injury, Barça have shown immense support to the youngster and has vowed to reserve a place for him in the club’s plans going forward.

Bernal’s contract is already protected by a special release clause and recent reports indicate he may soon sign a new deal with Barcelona.

It appears the Catalan outfit is all set to hold a meeting next week to discuss the details of his contract. The exact date has not been set, but there is a chance Monday could be the day.

Bernal signed a contract extension with Barcelona in July, extending his deal until 2026, with an option to extend it for three more years and a release clause of €20 million.

But even though he is yet to turn 17, Barcelona intend to tie down Bernal to another new deal as soon as he turns 18. Marc Bernal will turn 18 in May 2025.

The Blaugrana‘s intention is to trigger a new deal that will safeguard the midfielder’s long-term future at the club. Whether or not the duration of the deal will be extended to three years as agreed in July, remains to be seen.
