Barcelona’s impending capture of Dani Olmo could require the club to get rid of a few existing stars, as they look to free up space in the wage bill.

The coming days, in particular, could prove to be crucial for Barcelona, as the club must make some key decisions.

Barcelona bosses to meet this week

Keeping that in mind, the club’s top brass will convene to finalize decisions regarding potential squad departures, reports AS.

The meeting, scheduled to be chaired by club president Joan Laporta and attended by key figures including sporting director Deco and head coach Hansi Flick, will focus on streamlining the squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Hansi Flick has utilized the preseason to closely evaluate the squad’s dynamics and needs. This period has seen several youth players, such as Marc Casado, Pau Victor, Hector Fort, and Marc Bernal, making significant strides.

Their success could ease the burden for Barcelona as they look to get rid of some established stars in the team.

Who could leave the club?

Barcelona have already gotten rid of multiple first-team stars, including Sergi Roberto, Marcos Alonso and most recently, Oriol Romeu.

In the coming few weeks, a few more could join the list, as Barcelona desperately look to reduce the wage bill and make more economic provisions in the squad.

Ferran Torres and Raphinha are among the first-team stars in contention to leave Catalonia, though both players have appeared quite reluctant to leave the club.

Clement Lenglet is another strong candidate to leave, as the Frenchman is not a part of Hansi Flick’s project. The same can be said for Vitor Roque, who has fallen out of favour at Barcelona.

This week’s meeting aims to accelerate the decision-making process. While the likes of Ferran, Lenglet and Roque will be hot topics, surprises in the final list of departures are not ruled out as the club looks to finalize a lean, competitive squad for the season ahead.
