Barcelona’s return to the financial 1:1 rule implies that the club are free to look for winter reinforcements that can add value to Hansi Flick’s project.
Given their wage bill, however, an arrival is only possible if the club manage to engineer a departure at the earliest and the Catalans are looking to sell either Eric Garcia or Ansu Fati to create the required space.
Should they be able to procure the financial space required, the plan is to reinforce the left wing where they have Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford waiting for a potential move.
The player is willing to lower his expectations
Rashford is not in the best of situations in Manchester as he has been frozen out of Ruben Amorim’s plans.
A departure is in his best interest, but Barcelona appeals to him the most of all the options on his table.
As relayed in a recent report by SPORT, the winger is ready to make financial concessions to secure a move to Catalonia before the end of the winter transfer window.
This would imply that the player will accept a lower salary to play for Barcelona.
The club are trying to sign him on a six-month loan as it stands as Flick values his ability to play in multiple positions, his versatility and his talent.
However, the outlet adds that Fati’s departure on loan alone will not provide the required space.
Barcelona’s manager is convinced that Rashford can be a valuable addition to the team given the long and hectic schedule ahead, especially after Ansu Fati failed to provide the required depth in the department.
The options on his table
Matteo Moretto further relays that Barcelona are expected to make new contacts with the Manchester United star either today or tomorrow to assess the feasibility of the operation. After all, the player is in a hurry to resolve his future.
His dream remains to play for Barcelona, but he also has Borussia Dortmund as an option.
However, the Germans are not willing to pay the amount required to close his signing, nor does Rashford see it to be his primary option.
If a move to Barcelona does not work out, staying at Manchester United thus remains an option. In such a scenario, his name may return to the table in the summer.
