Alphonso Davies has emerged as a transfer target for FC Barcelona, with the left-back’s contract at Bayern Munich set to expire at the end of the season.

However, the Canadian international is also a priority target for the Blaugrana’s arch-rivals Real Madrid, who have been working on his acquisition for quite some time now.

Barcelona, for their part, pinned their hopes on Davies’ connection with manager Hansi Flick, to give them an edge in the transfer race.

Real Madrid ahead

However, according to BILD (h/t SPORT), Real Madrid remain ahead of Barcelona in the transfer race for Alphonso Davies.

As per the report, Bayern Munich have practically accepted the loss of their left-back and consider Real Madrid the leading candidate to secure his signature on a free transfer.

The Merengues have accelerated their efforts in recent weeks following interest from several clubs, including Barcelona, and are close to achieving what would be a strategic signing for the future.

The Bavarian giants believe that Davies’ agent showed disrespect during a recent meeting, leaving them to communicate solely with the player in attempts to retain him. However, they acknowledge that once January arrives, keeping him will become impossible.

Talks being held

The report adds that Davies’s representatives have been discussing terms with various clubs in recent weeks.

Manchester United have expressed willingness to meet his demands – a signing bonus of approximately €15 million and an annual net salary of €10 million. But the player remains unconvinced by their project.

Barcelona have also inquired, as they hold strong interest in the player, but sporting director Deco recognizes the financial challenges.

Despite that, the Blaugrana remain in contention, with their primary advantage being Hansi Flick, who gave Davies his breakthrough at Bayern and maintains an excellent relationship with him. Barcelona view the situation as difficult but not impossible.

However, Real Madrid have strengthened communications with an economic proposal, and ‘Bild’ believes they are very close to signing him.

Nevertheless, Davies has not made his final decision, and January will prove crucial in resolving the situation.
