With only two hours left for the winter transfer window to slam shut, it appears that there may be some deadline day drama at FC Barcelona.
After a move for Marcus Rashford ended up collapsing, it was expected that there would be no signings made by the Blaugrana.
But just a while ago, club president Joan Laporta teased a possible late operation, although he went on to deflect that soon after, suggesting that Barça are waiting for ex-midfielder Nico Gonzalez’s move to Man City to go through as they stand to gain financially.
A loan deal on the horizon?
However, now, journalist Gerard Romero reports that Barcelona are indeed trying to get a loan deal across the line but are running out of time to close the operation.
The update does not mention any name or the position that the Blaugrana are looking to strengthen but just that it is a loan operation that is being worked on.
However, with not much time left before the transfer window closes, the chances of the deal going through appear rather slim.
The Catalans have been looking for a new forward, as was apparent by their pursuit of Marcus Rashford, which ended up falling through due to the lack of salary space.
The cash from the Nico operation might open up the possibility of bringing in a player, but as mentioned by Romero, Barcelona are certainly running out of time.
Only time will tell if there are any dramatic last-minute deadline day deals at Barça like it was the case in the summer of 2023, when the club roped in Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo on loan.
