Inigo Martinez and Robert Lewandowski have rediscovered their best versions this season and have become key pillars in Hansi Flick’s Barcelona setup.
Both have been near ever-presents in the starting XI and have delivered big time with solid performances on the pitch.
Continuity almost secured
Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that both Martinez and Lewandowski are on track to play another year with Barcelona.
Martinez’s current contract with Barça ends this coming June, although he has a clause for an additional season provided he meets a specific percentage of played matches.
Lewandowski, meanwhile, signed a four-year deal until 2026 when he joined in 2022, but the final year of his contract is also subject to a minimum requirement.
Martinez needs to play 60% of matches in his second year to qualify for a third. He has participated in 10 of the 11 matches that Barça have played this term – nine in La Liga and two more in the Champions League, all as a starter and exceeding the minimum of 45 minutes.
The only match where the defender did not play a single minute was against Osasuna. As things stand, the veteran defender has featured in 90% of the matches – more than sufficient to secure his continuity.
In Lewandowski’s case, the conditions are understood to be quite similar.
The Polish striker signed for four seasons in 2022, but if in the final year, he does not reach 55% of matches with the same minimum playing time of half a game, the Catalan club can terminate his contract.
However, that is far from being the case as Lewandowski has played 100% of matches this season and is the top scorer with 12 goals.
Club sources explain to the aforementioned outlet that, in any case, Barcelona can propose a new contract renewal at any time to both players.
Flick counts on both Lewandowski and Martinez owing to their performance and their leadership skills in a squad dominated by young players.
