Oriol Romeu may have divided Barcelona fans with his performances since rejoining Barcelona last summer.
The midfielder was roped in from Girona with high expectations that he would fill in the shoes left by the mercurial Sergio Busquets.
As we approach the final phase of the campaign, it is fair to say that the Romeu signing has not worked out. But the Spaniard remains an out-and-out professional and is one of the most respected players in the first-team.
How Oriol overcame a knee sprain
In the most recent demonstration of his professionalism, SPORT reveals that Oriol Romeu had actually picked up a knee sprain in the run-up to the game against Granada last month.
Romeu was dropped from the squad for the game, with Xavi later clarifying that it was a precautionary measure. Barcelona, though, never released any medical statement regarding the player.
The report suggests Romeu had indeed picked up a serious knock. But he preferred to handle the matter discreetly.
The Spaniard went on to work on his muscles and prevent his knee from suffering more than necessary. Eventually, he overcame an injury scare, even though the midfielder’s woes with lack of game-time continue.
To his credit, Oriol Romeu has never used injuries as an excuse. Even after being dropped from the Girona game, the player has been very self-critical and has publicly highlighted that his performances have dropped.
The report further points out that the Spaniard stays out of any negativity and social media. He spends his time on personal interactions, which makes him a class apart from the rest.
Because of such professionalism and humility, Oriol Romeu remains one of the most respected players at Barcelona.
