Not more than a few weeks ago, Sergi Roberto was one of the few players who were guaranteed a new contract by FC Barcelona.
But now, the veteran midfielder faces the possibility of leaving the club he called home throughout his playing career, without even saying goodbye to the fans.
That is the ongoing situation with regard to Roberto’s future at Camp Nou right now, with Barcelona now shifting priorities after the arrival of Hansi Flick.
Roberto ‘disgusted’ with Barcelona
A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has revealed how Sergi Roberto is disgusted and annoyed at Barcelona for this drastic turn of events.
Earlier in the season, the veteran was informed by the Barça board his contract would be renewed regardless of whether or not Xavi stays at Camp Nou.

However, Barcelona are no longer prioritising Roberto’s contract extension due to the ongoing economic crunch and the player might have to wait to learn his fate at the club.
Barcelona are currently awaiting a final call from La Liga regarding how much the club can spend in the coming summer.
Another priority for Barça is to register players such as Gavi and Alejandro Balde, among a list of other stars that also includes January signing Vitor Roque.
What’s next for Roberto?
Despite his annoyance, Sergi Roberto remains keen on continuing at Camp Nou and serving as captain at least for another year.
The Spaniard has offers from Saudi Arabia and MLS, but he does not want to rush any decisions over his future.
He does, however, like the idea of moving to the United States, where his former teammates Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez ply their trade for Inter Miami.
In the next few days, Roberto is expected to meet his agent Josep Maria Orobitg, where they will make a final decision over the player’s future and set a deadline for Barcelona to come up with a renewal proposal.
