Hansi Flick has been at FC Barcelona for a short period but has already endeared himself to everyone at the club as well as the supporters.

The German tactician, who took over the reins from Xavi Hernandez, has already led the team to the Spanish Super Cup triumph while the Catalans sit atop La Liga, are in the semi-finals of Copa del Rey and the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

Flick has done so by changing the way Barça play without losing their true essence and embracing the tradition and culture of blooding youngsters from La Masia.

Laporta, Barcelona want to renew Flick

As such, SPORT reports that Barcelona have made their stance clear: they want to ensure the continuity of Hansi Flick, whose contract runs until 2026.

Indeed, Barça president Joan Laporta’s objective is to finalise Flick’s renewal until the summer of 2028 as soon as possible.

Within the club, there is a strong belief that Flick has proven in his first season that he is the ideal coach to lead a long-term project.

The 60-year-old’s appointment was a personal bet from Laporta, who had been considering a German approach for Barcelona’s bench for several years.

As such, while the head coach has remained cautious about his long-term future, the Catalans are eager to send a strong message of confidence by offering him a contract extension.

Renewal with an asterisk

The report claims that Barcelona have already made the first approaches to lay the groundwork for Flick’s renewal.

However, a crucial factor looms on the horizon: Barcelona’s presidential elections in 2026.

Laporta is keen to avoid committing the club beyond the elections, so any agreement would likely include a clause stating that the manager’s continuity beyond 2026 would depend on the newly elected president.

Despite this, Laporta’s goal is to announce the coach’s renewal as early as this summer.

Another key aspect to consider is the Blaugrana’s financial fair play situation, as the financial conditions in the coming months will influence any decisions.
