La Liga giants Barcelona are interested in signing expensive Manchester United flop Antony on loan.
According to Catalan outlet El Nacional, the Blaugrana are interested in signing the former Ajax player with manager Erik ten Hag reportedly losing faith in the Brazilian winger.
ten Hag “was convinced that he could become a key piece, and be one of the pillars of the team,” according to the newspaper.
Antony’s transfer to Man United has not turned out like it was expected, as the poor form of the former Ajax star has left 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho occupying the right flank position despite it not being his natural position.
The Red Devils felt Antony’s first year at the club was disastrous but he needed time to acclimatise to his new surroundings so they still had hope.
However, as time has passed, the winger has made a number of mistakes and his career has regressed.
Due to a combination of his terrible play, which has seen him record zero goals and zero assists in 22 games this season, and his behavioral issues, which caused him to be temporarily removed from the team, Antony has reportedly become the “black sheep of the locker room”.
Ten Hag is “very unhappy with him” and now Barcelona have appeared and are very seriously interested in welcoming him to the Camp Nou in January.
The Catalan outlet has claimed: “Ten Hag, who in the past was a great supporter of the Brazilian international, is very unhappy with him, and would not be opposed to a farewell. And here Barça has appeared, who have been very seriously interested in welcoming him into Xavi Hernández’s discipline”.
Barcelona cannot pay any significant amount for a permanent move, and Nacional has claimed that coming on loan is the only option for him to be able to join the La Liga champions.
Antony would be pleased to try his luck at the Camp Nou, according to the report.
