Earlier this week, La Liga President Javier Tebas spoke extensively on Barcelona’s economic situation and acknowledged the fact that the club were on their way back from the financial mess.

Joan Laporta confirmed the same yesterday, insisting that they were close to returning to the 1:1 rule for signings. Big transfers in the summer, thus, are not entirely ruled out.

With the budget likely to be supportive of the same, Xavi will look to strengthen some key positions on the field, with a winger’s arrival not ruled out.

The asset in Germany

Now, according to a breaking report from El Chiringuito, Barcelona are interested in Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane.

The 28-year-old German winger has been a mainstay for the UEFA Champions League semifinalists this season, scoring eight goals and providing a stunning 11 assists in just 26 league appearances.

While he has indeed featured prominently as a right-winger for Bayern Munich, Sane is capable of playing down the left flank as well to equal effect and his versatility sits well for Xavi’s plans.

Contractual situation

The €80 million-rated star’s current contract with Bayern Munich runs until the summer of 2025, handing the advantage to Barcelona in any transfer negotiations should Sane opt not to renew with the Bavarians.

As matters stand, however, word has it that negotiations between the two parties are underway and a renewal may be likely.

Should he pen a longer deal with the club, the fee Barcelona will have to shell out for his signing will proportionately increase.

It thus remains to be seen if Barcelona can recover in time to make a bid for the Bayern Munich star in June or if the financial situation continues to plague them.

After all, Bayern will not make it easy for the Catalans to sign a regular member of their starting XI.
