Vitor Roque’s road to redemption appears to have hit a snag this summer, as the forward has been unable to impress the coaching staff with his performances in training.

In many ways, Barcelona’s pre-season friendly against Manchester City in the United States was an eye-opener for coach Hansi Flick, as Roque emerged as one of the worst-performing attackers.

Roque falls behind Victor in pecking order

As reported by Diario AS, Roque now finds himself overshadowed by summer signing Pau Victor. This comes freshly after the Man City friendly, where Victor emerged as one of the key performers.

In contrast, Roque’s underwhelming display against Manchester City was the final straw for the club’s management.

Starting on the left wing, he failed to make an impact, losing possession frequently and not registering a single shot on goal.

His defensive lapses were evident, as he struggled against City’s Oscar Bobb. By halftime, Roque appeared dejected and was benched for the second half.

Despite hopes that he would rise to the challenge under new coach Hansi Flick, Roque has been outshone by Barcelona’s La Masia graduates and the impressive Pau Victor.

Victor, a recent €3 million acquisition from Girona, has made an immediate impact, securing his place in the first team and pushing Roque further down the pecking order.

What’s next for Roque?

Barcelona are now contemplating Roque’s future, with a loan or permanent transfer being considered. Andre Cury, Roque’s agent, initially resisted the idea of a loan, but the club’s stance is shifting as they recognize Roque’s lack of fit in the current squad.

Barcelona are willing to accept offers of around €30 million for Roque, with the club eager to rectify this transfer misstep. Lazio have recently sounded out the prospect of signing the Brazilian, so it will be interesting to see how things evolve in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Pau Victor’s rise continues to be a bright spot for the Catalans, as they look for a reliable alternative to star striker Robert Lewandowski.
