After spending the last season on loan with Barça Atletic, Pau Victor was re-signed by FC Barcelona from Girona this summer, but with the distinction of him being a first-team player.

Indeed, the 22-year-old’s transfer was completed with the first-team setup in mind after he almost managed to lead the reserve team to promotion to La Liga 2 last season.

There were initial considerations about possibly selling the Spaniard for a profit or even loaning him out, but those changed after he shone brightly on the US pre-season tour.

Now, Victor is considered to be Hansi Flick’s preferred option for the backup striker role to provide cover for Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona want to register Pau Victor with the first-team

As such, Barcelona intend to register Pau Victor as a first-team player in La Liga, reports journalist Santi Ovalle.

The 22-year-old attacker was one of the biggest takeaways for Barça from the US pre-season tour as he scored goals against Manchester City and Real Madrid while showcasing his versatility in the final third and eye for a goal.

Victor is now seen as being ahead of other players like Ansu Fati and Vitor Roque in the pecking order and will have a part in the senior setup, which is why Barça intend to register him as a first-team member in La Liga.

Two options on the table if registration not done

However, if the registration process is not successfully completed before the last week of August, Barcelona will consider two possible courses of action for the future of Pau Victor.

The first option that the Blaugrana would explore is a potential loan move away from the club for the young striker, who signed a five-year contract upon his arrival this summer.

The second choice would be to hand him a subsidiary number and register him as a player with Barcelona Atletic.

Apart from Victor, Barça also need to register fellow new signing Dani Olmo as well as some existing players in the squad like Inigo Martinez and the club may be forced into taking some tough decisions.
