Luis de La Fuente’s stubbornness over playing Lamine Yamal despite Barcelona’s repeated warnings to give the player some time eventually paid its price.
Starting for La Roja once again last week, the young winger was subjected to endless harsh challenges and left the game limping.
Tests have revealed a minor strain in his hamstring, but Barcelona will be relieved that the player has left the national team camp and returned to Catalonia to rest, thus missing Spain’s second game of the internatonal break.
Decision of return uncertain
Barcelona have officially confirmed that the player is not at 100% fitness and that his recovery will determine his return. As revealed earlier today, his participation against Sevilla is under doubt.
Now, according to reports from Catalunya Radio, a final decision on Yamal’s participation against Los Nervionenses will be taken on Friday. Notably, Barcelona play against Sevilla on Sunday night.
The 17-year-old thus has the entire week to rest and recuperate in what is a much-required time off for him. His feelings on Friday will dictate his participation.
While the medical green light is one matter, Hansi Flick also has an equal role in play in the youngster’s return as he is the party liable to manage Yamal’s minutes.
The young magician’s trickery will indeed ease Barcelona’s case against Sevilla in what will be a tricky clash at the weekend.
However, Flick may even opt to keep him out of the dynamics irrespective of his fitness so as to have him at his 100% for the games that lie ahead – Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
The coming days will be critical, and Flick may well prefer to err on the side of caution just as he did not shy away from doing earlier this season.
