Barcelona will need to fork out at least €40 million to sign 22-year-old target

Barcelona are keeping a close watch on Lucas Chevalier, Lille’s standout goalkeeper, as they prepare for the possibility of strengthening their squad in the upcoming transfer window. 

According to reports from SPORT, Barcelona have been following Chevalier since last season, impressed by his consistent performances for Lille, which helped the French club qualify for the Champions League. 

Now, with a contract extending until 2027, Lille are reportedly firm on their stance that Chevalier will not be allowed to leave for less than €40 million, making any potential transfer a significant investment for Barcelona.

Barcelona are exploring

The urgency to find a reliable backup or even a potential successor for Marc-Andre ter Stegen has increased, especially after Ter Stegen’s recent injury. 

Additionally, there are ongoing concerns surrounding Inaki Pena, Barcelona’s current backup goalkeeper, which have led the club’s management to explore alternative options.

Meanwhile, it has been suggested that Chevalier’s agent, Mikkel Beck, who previously represented former Barcelona player Lucas Digne, has already conducted talks with several clubs interested in the French goalkeeper’s future. 

It is evident that the keeper’s rising form has attracted considerable attention, pushing his transfer value upwards. 

Other avenues

Barça understand that any pursuit of Chevalier will likely turn into a competitive bidding process, and Lille’s €40 million valuation could pose a challenge given the club’s financial constraints.

While Barcelona remain attentive to Chevalier’s situation, they are also considering other avenues. The club is weighing up options within their academy, as well as keeping tabs on other talented goalkeepers, including Diogo Costa. 

This multi-faceted approach allows Barça to evaluate their choices carefully while staying flexible for both short-term fixes and long-term solutions.

For now, the club’s technical team, led by Deco and Hansi Flick, continues to monitor the situation closely, understanding that adding Chevalier could strengthen their squad considerably.
