Since arriving at FC Barcelona in January, Vitor Roque has found game-time hard to come by under Xavi. The 19-year-old’s arrival was met with lots of expectations but Xavi has not banked on the youngster much so far.

Indeed, Roque has played just a little over 200 minutes across 11 matches in all competitions since joining the Blaugrana.

As such, there have been some murmurs that Roque could be allowed to leave on loan in the summer for him to play regularly and continue his development.

Decision made

However, as per the latest update from Mundo Deportivo, Vitor Roque will not be leaving Barcelona on loan next summer, with the club not considering such an option.

The club’s decision is that Roque will complete his adaptation period with the team for the remainder of the current campaign and will start from scratch with the rest of his teammates for next season.

Despite the fact that he has not had many opportunities so far, both the coaching staff and the sporting management are satisfied with the 19-year-old’s contributions.

From the first day, the Brazilian has shown a great attitude to learn and has shown an ability to make things happen in the few minutes he has played.

Aside from the two goals he has scored, Roque is capable of creating space, changing the dynamic of a game with his work rate and ability to press the opposition defence.

What has Roque said?

Roque himself recently admitted in an interview that he is confident his time will come and he is happy to keep learning and improving.

“I am sure that I will be an important player at Barça. Match by match I’m gaining confidence,” he said.

At just 19 years of age, Barça are clear that Roque, whose current market value stands at €40 million, just needs time to finish his development.

The club’s commitment towards him is complete and the option of him being loaned is not being considered.
