Barcelona and PSG will indulge in an on-field battle later tonight when the two clubs square off in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal second leg.
Off the field, the two teams do not always see eye to eye, but have been involved in several transfer activities in the past, the most recent of which saw Ousmane Dembele leave Barcelona for Paris.
Heading into the summer of 2024, Les Parisiens have set their sights on another Barça star in the form of Gavi.
PSG would ‘love’ to sign Gavi
Indeed, as per the transfer expert Ben Jacobs via Caught Offside, PSG would ‘love’ to sign Gavi from Barcelona in a bid to strengthen their midfield department.
The French champions’ interest in the 19-year-old midfield sensation is nothing new as there were links to him last summer as well, after Luis Enrique took over as manager.
The former Barcelona boss is a huge admirer of Gavi and gave him his break in the Spanish national team.
Ever since Enrique became the PSG boss, links to Gavi have persisted and Ben Jacobs claims that he is a signing that the Ligue 1 champions would love.
Barcelona will not sell
However, Jacobs goes on to add that there is simply no way that Barcelona will sell Gavi, who the club sees as a ‘future captain’.
“In midfield, they (PSG) would also love to sign Gavi from Barcelona, but there is low confidence that’s possible. Gavi is seen as a future Barcelona captain,” Jacobs said.
Gavi, a product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy, has become synonymous with the club and has firmly established himself as a fan favourite.
Currently sidelined with an ACL injury, the 19-year-old is happy at the club and is not looking to leave either.
