Barcelona will put an important player on sale if €60 million-rated ace joins – report

While it is certain that FC Barcelona are prepared to go all out for the signing of Nico Williams, it appears that the club president, Joan Laporta, also wants to add Dani Olmo to the squad as well.

Indeed, as per reports earlier this week, Laporta is understood to have instructed sporting director Deco to close both signings.

Deco, in fact, held a meeting with the agents of Olmo on Tuesday before interacting with Nico’s representatives on Wednesday.

As far as the signing of Nico is considered, Barcelona are confident of pulling it off even if it means that they take out a loan to activate his €58 million release clause.

An important player to be sold to accommodate Olmo?

For Barcelona to accommodate the signing of Dani Olmo on top of Nico Williams, the club would need to clear some room in the squad.

And as such, Gerard Romero reports that Barça plan on putting an important player up for sale if they get Olmo from RB Leipzig.

The 26-year-old has a €60 million release clause which expires tomorrow, but it is expected that the Bundesliga club would be open to selling him for the same fee with the player seeking a departure.

However, if Olmo were to arrive, Barcelona would have to part ways with a significant player to make room for Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 hero.

Who will be sacrificed?

While Romero did not reveal the name of the said player, he did suggest that it was ‘unexpected’.

Previous reports had suggested that Ilkay Gundogan could be an option that Barcelona might consider offloading to make room for Olmo’s arrival.

However, Romero, who claimed to have been given the name of the said player by two agents, denied it being Gundogan.

Raphinha could be a candidate considering he has suitors in England and Saudi Arabia willing to pay big sums for his signing. Frenkie de Jong could also be an option given his high salary and recent fitness issues.

With Olmo attracting significant interest from elsewhere as well, it remains to be seen how this story unfolds in the coming days.
