It has been an outstanding summer for Spanish football. If the historic triumph in Euro 2024 was not enough, La Roja have also bagged a gold in the Paris Olympics.

Pau Cubarsi was one of three Barcelona players representing the Spanish team in the Olympics, even playing a crucial role in the team’s defence throughout the tournament.

Speaking to the media after the Olympic gold, Cubarsi shared his feelings as well as revealing his connection with Eric Garcia.

Cubarsi on securing Olympic Gold

“We have achieved a historic achievement that cannot be described in words,” Cubarsi told the media after Spain’s win. “We will celebrate now.”

Spain secured the gold medal by beating France in the final, with Barcelona star Fermin Lopez notably bagging a brace.

“It was amazing for the viewers. We went behind but we managed to come back. We did a great job and got the win,” Cubarsi said on Spain’s comeback win.

“It’s been an honour to have worked all this time to make this happen. The work has been amazing,” he added.

Talking about the gold medal itself, the Barcelona defender added, “It’s really heavy, it’s a feeling that can’t be described in words, it’s something amazing and I hope all the Spaniards are as happy as we are.”

Cubarsi went on to share his understanding with Eric Garcia, revealing that the two have a good connection on and off the pitch.

“The understanding with Garcia? He is an impressive boy on and off the pitch, we help each other and we are very happy,” he said.

Finally, talking about the road ahead, Cubarsi stated he will now focus on all things Barcelona, but only after a break.

“I will have a break and I can recover. Now with Barcelona, we will try to compete in all possible competitions,” he said.

It won’t be surprising to see both Cubarsi and Fermin miss Barcelona’s matches this month, following a gruelling summer. But the club will get them back in training in a couple of weeks time.
