Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal all set to break Pele’s historic record

It has been a season full of special moments for Lamine Yamal as he enjoyed a spectacular breakthrough campaign with FC Barcelona, breaking a plethora of records along the way.

Soon, the 16-year-old sensation forced his way into the Spanish national team and started achieving historic landmarks with La Roja as well.

Currently shining bright at the UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany, Yamal has been one of the key reasons behind Spain’s run to the semi-finals.

Most assists in the competition, the first teenager to create 12+ at the Euros, and the first-ever teenager to provide three or more assists at a single European Championship or World Cup tournament – Yamal’s list of achievements in this Euro is already long.

Yamal set to go past Pele

Now, as Spain take on France in the UEFA Euro 2024 semi-final later tonight, Lamine Yamal is set to add another historic record to his resume.

Indeed, should he feature for La Roja in the semi-final at the Allianz Arena, which he is certain to do, the Barcelona wonderkid would become the youngest player to play in a World Cup or Euros semi-final.

In the process, Yamal would be surpassing Brazil and football legend Pele, who set the record in the 1958 World Cup (17 years, 244 days) when he played coincidentally against France itself.

It has been a memorable tournament thus far for Lamine, who has three assists in five appearances already.

A goal has eluded the teenage sensation though and he will be eager to set that right and there is no better moment than a big semi-final against one of the tournament favourites for him to do so.

If Yamal scores tonight then he will become the youngest-ever goalscorer in the Euros’ history. Furthermore, should he record another assist, he will equal the record for most assists at a single Euro tournament.
