Last night was a special one for FC Barcelona as they secured a statement win over PSG in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie.
The Blaugrana secured a 3-2 triumph over Les Parisiens away at Parc des Princes, thanks to a Raphinha brace and a match-winner from Andreas Christensen.
Almost every player put their hands up and made a vital contribution on the night, although teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal was a tad off-colour.
Indeed, the 16-year-old was well below his best level in Paris on Wednesday night and failed to make the kind of impact fans have come to expect from him.
Lamine Yamal was recovering from a stomach issue
Now, Gerard Romero has come forward with an update that could explain Lamine Yamal’s rather quiet performance against PSG last night.
As per the journalist, Yamal had been suffering from a stomach issue leading up to the big encounter against the French champions at Parc des Princes.
The 16-year-old Barcelona wonderkid was understood to be dealing with the issue for a few days before the PSG encounter, although he has now fully recovered.
That may have played a part in Yamal not lighting up the Parc des Princes with his usual level of performance on Wednesday.
A fine breakthrough season for Lamine
It has been a special season for Lamine Yamal, with the youngster going on to establish himself as a regular in Xavi’s plans despite being just 16 years old.
In fact, according to CIES Football Observatory, the Barcelona wonderkid’s transfer value has shot up by €134 million (from €11 million to €145 million) in the last six months, the most for any player under the age of 23 during that period.
While he might have had an off night in Paris, Yamal is very much capable of starring for Barcelona when they host PSG next week in the reverse fixture.
