Fermin Lopez was one of the rising stars in Barcelona’s pre-season campaign last summer, as he stepped up in key friendlies before eventually establishing himself as a first-team player.

Fermin ended the season with eight goals in 31 league matches and was even a part of the Spanish team that lifted the European Championship.

As Barcelona kick off their pre-season campaign with a tour to the United States, one would imagine many young talents would look to follow in the footsteps of Fermin Lopez.

Marc Casado looking to emulate Fermin

According to SPORT, one of these youth players looking to emulate Fermin Lopez this summer is Marc Casado.

The young defensive midfielder is hoping to make an impression as Barcelona gear up for the upcoming US tour.

Casado has already made his professional debut with Barça and recently secured a professional contract and a berth in the first-team.

Everything suggests he will be a potential option for new coach Hansi Flick in midfield, heading into the season ahead.

Is Casado Barcelona’s answer in midfield?

It is no secret that Barcelona are desperate to rope in a new defensive midfielder, as the club have struggled to find an able replacement for Sergio Busquets.

Mikel Merino has been linked with a move to Catalonia this summer, but the club must make some serious economic provisions in order to sign the Spaniard.

Marc Casado, therefore, could prove to be an interesting in-house option for Barça in their bid to find a new number six next season.

The youngster does lack experience at the highest level, but if he can step up his game in the coming season, there is no reason why Casado can not only emulate but also elevate Fermin Lopez in the years to come.
