Vitor Roque arrived at Barcelona during the winter transfer window with great expectations. The 19-year-old was signed last summer in a deal worth €61 million, including add-ons, but was allowed to continue at Athletico Paranaense.
However, in January, Barcelona brought him in instead of waiting until the summer of 2024. But since coming in, the Brazilian striker has hardly had game-time, with manager Xavi Hernandez not showing enough confidence in him.
Roque, for now, finds himself behind Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres in the pecking order while Marc Guiu has also been favoured over him at times.
As such, there has been talk of the 19-year-old leaving Barcelona on loan in the summer transfer window.
Vitor Roque’s condition to leave
Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that Vitor Roque is not looking to leave Barcelona in the summer. The teenager believes that he can contribute to the club’s cause.
However, Roque would consider leaving Barcelona on loan in one case. The teenage striker will only accept a loan exit only if he gets enough game time in the remaining part of the season and he is unable to make the most of his chances.
Roque has not featured for some time now , but with the season almost over, there is an expectation that Xavi might be willing to give him minutes.
For the moment, the only thought that Vitor Roque has in his head is to be able to have opportunities and some continuity to be able to show that, despite his 19 years, he can already be important for Barça.
After not having played a single minute in the Champions League or in the Clásico , Tigrinho’s participation in La Liga is summarized in only two starts and a total of 276 minutes played spread over 11 games. In that time he has managed to score two goals.
As of today, the transfer is not a scenario that neither the striker nor his closest entourage contemplate.
Roque made great resignations in the face of offers greater than that of Barça because of his hope of being able to succeed as a Barça player and he does not plan to give up his dream at the first opportunity.
In fact, the footballer only hopes to be able to have several games in a row in this final stretch of the championship and, with continuity, to be able to demonstrate that he can already be a very valid footballer for this team.
However, in the scenario where it doesn’t work for him, Roque will be open to considering a loan exit.
Meanwhile, Xavi did hint in yesterday’s press conference that adapting to a new team, especially Barcelona and their philosophy, is not easy, leaving the door open for a loan exit.
“It is not easy to come from another league at his age. He needs confidence and to play and we will decide. He can play for Barça in the future for sure because he has quality,” Xavi said.
