Baron Corbin revealed how he struggled to deal with being a true heel in the WWE.

The former Mr Money in the Bank was consistently one of the most hated heels throughout his run in the company.

However, his run came to a shocking end this year. He was released from his contract at the start of the month, ending over a decade spent in the company.

Before he was let go, Baron Corbin spoke with Metro about the struggles of being a heel in WWE. He explained it’s hard to get fans to hate you because he really wanted them to appreciate him. Corbin noted that it can be difficult convincing them you are terrible at your job and getting them to hate him.

“It can get you a little bit because you just want to be – as lame as it is, you just want to be appreciated for that. Do you understand how hard this is to do, on everything in your life? It’s the TV, the social media, the home.”

“It can be frustrating to go out there and just get treated like dirt, then get beat more than you win and so people assume you’re just not good, or something like that. That’s tough to walk around with. So, yeah, it can be difficult.”

“You’re not being a true heel. People need to hate you 24/7. They want to think you can’t wrestle – let them think all of those things. You have to swallow that as you’re going through your career.”

However, that isn’t to say Baron Corbin didn’t enjoy being a heel.

“I really dug into being a heel. And you take a lot of crap for that. You take people saying you can’t wrestle, you got to have thick skin to handle this.”
