A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State, Barr Festus Daumiebi Sunday, has lauded Governor Douye Diri for approving the construction of two link road projects at a cost of N47 billion in Bomo clan, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

The two road projects are the 9-kilometre-long Angiama-Eniwari and the 13-kilometre-long Eniwari-Fonibiri road, approved by Diri as part of his administration’s efforts to connect the hinterland to the state capital.

Daumiebi, on Monday in Yenagoa, said, “On behalf of the people of Fonibiri community and the entire people of Bomo clan in Southern Ijaw LGA, I express deep appreciation to His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State.”

He also thanked the governor for the award and ongoing construction of a 12-classroom storey building, 10 units of one-bedroom flats storey buildings as teachers’ quarters, principal and vice principal’s quarters.

Others are a corpers’ lodge, an administrative block, a science and laboratory block, a library block internal roads, a workshop, a dining block, a male hostel, a female hostel, 100,000 gallons solar borehole, construction of internal road network in the community and the approval of health centre.

Daumiebi also lauded Diri for the ongoing construction of similar projects at the Igbomotoru community in the Bomo clan, expressing confidence that the projects, when completed, would bridge the escalating gap between the urban/rural dichotomies.

He thanked the contractors handling the various projects for the speed with which they were going about the projects, saying though the projects started about four months ago, “their present level of completion spans from 50 to 98 per cent.”

Daumiebi enjoined other politicians in the state to borrow a leaf from Governor Diri for not taking political considerations as a factor in siting projects in communities but for the general benefit of all Bayelsans.

He said, “I wish Governor Douye Diri a peaceful and remarkable second term in office.”

He, however, urged the governor to award the road projects to a reputable construction company with the requisite capacity and records of completion of previous jobs so that his good intentions for approving the road projects would not be defeated.

He averred, “The people of Bomo are going to keenly monitor the execution of these all-important projects as any attempt by any contractor to abandon or delay the completion of the roads shall be greeted with every lawful resistance.”
