At Bayern Munich, where they have become accustomed to annihilating their opponents with a form of sadistic pleasure for more than 10 years, the failure of this season in the Bundesliga was experienced as an unprecedented shipwreck. This season and for the first time since 2013, the order established by the Munich club was overturned by Leverkusen, crowned German champion despite this loser label which has accompanied it for decades. Yes, but there you have it, a man: Xabi Alonso.

After a little over a year at the head of Bayer, the Spanish technician has built a solid reputation on the continent, to the point of being solicited by clubs of the caliber of Liverpool or Bayern Munich in the latter month. Bayern Munich… a team, among many others, which had paid the price for the Olympic form displayed by Leverkusen this season (Leverkusen won 3-0 in February at the Bay Arena, the first leg ended on a 2-2). If this meeting had the appearance of a job interview for Alonso, in a club that he knows particularly well having played there as a player (2014-2017), the Spaniard finally cut short the rumors by indicating that he would stay at Leverkusen next season, forcing Bayern Munich to review their post-Tuchel plans.

Bayern Munich have made Jonathan Tah one of their priorities

A leader, yes, but also followers capable of drawing others into this collective wake. It is for this reason that Bayern Munich is already taking the temperature of the market and exploring avenues to strengthen itself. This Wednesday, Sky Sports Germany reveals that Munich management has even already identified a player as one of its priorities, and not just any player: Jonathan Tah. Duty player and captain of Leverkusen when Hradecky is not there this season, the German international (23 caps) has risen to the ranks of Xabi Alonso’s executives, who would also like to see him extend his contract. But there is no indication that his request will be echoed.

According to the German media, Bayern leaders were impressed by the performance and flexibility of the player, capable of playing in a 3-man or 4-man defense. Aged 28, Tah is under contract until 2025 with Leverkusen and recently reaffirmed his intention to take a step forward, even if his initial desire seemed to be towards the Premier League. Sky Sports adds that discussions have already taken place between the player’s entourage and Bayern Munich, particularly confident in the matter even if no agreement has yet been reached. However, we know what Bayern Munich represents for a German player… And we would obviously understand if Tah were to accept this new challenge.
