With Barcelona scouring the market for a defensive pivot for the summer, the name of Bayern Munich superstar Joshua Kimmich has been doing the rounds for some time now.

The German international has a lot of admirers at the club while the player himself has previously spoken of his admiration for manager Xavi Hernandez.

Furthermore, with his contract expiring in 2025, there is a possibility of him leaving the German giants in the upcoming summer transfer window.

With Barcelona closely watching the situation, Kimmich was recently asked about the possibility of leaving Bayern Munich for top Spanish clubs like the Blaugrana or even Real Madrid, and in response, he said:

“At the moment I’m not thinking about this. As I said, I’ll talk to Bayern first. But, of course, Barcelona and Real Madrid are incredible clubs with an amazing history.”

As per reports earlier this month, any move for Kimmich could cost Barcelona around €30-35 million.

However, his wages, worth around €8 million per year net, could become an issue for the Catalan giants.

Furthermore, with Kimmich stating that he will talk to Bayern Munich about his possibilities of a contract extension are not completely ruled out either.

Barcelona though are looking to sign Guido Rodriguez on a free transfer. However, if the financial situation is feasible, another pivot could also be roped in by the reigning La Liga champions.
