Former Liverpool player Dean Saunders is worried about the situation at Liverpool.
The Reds have not made any new signing this summer and the Premier League season is about to start this weekend.
Arne Slot’s men open their Premier League campaign with a match against newly promoted Ipswich Town but the Dutch manager will not have the luxury of fielding a new signing for his team.
The Merseyside club have been quiet all summer and have failed to sign anyone, despite getting closer to completing the signature of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
Former Reds attacker Saunders has voiced his concern about Liverpool’s transfer business and claimed a big name player could leave the club soon.
Liverpool have not sorted out the contracts of Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold and that is something that is concerning Saunders.
“What worries me and it’s a massive concern,” the pundit told TalkSPORT.
“The four best players are Alisson, Van Dijk, Salah and Trent. They are world-class and they make the rest of the squad really good. If you lose those four players, then Liverpool are in big trouble.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move away from Liverpool.
“Don’t be surprised if you see Trent playing at Bayern Munich or Real Madrid shortly,” Saunders adds. “Or, I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Saudis offered him a ridiculous amount of money. Same for Van Dijk, he’s in his thirties.
“Salah, is he sill as motivated as he’s always been? Or is he thinking ‘I could end up in Saudi, three year contract on about two billion quid.’”
Liverpool fans are disappointed with the club
His claim would worry Liverpool fans and rightly so. After the departure of Jurgen Klopp from the club, all those four players have been linked with a move away from the club.
While Alisson’s contract situation is not an issue, they should have taken care of the contract situation of all the others players, considering how important and crucial they are to the club.
Liverpool fans are worried about their team’s chances of challenging for trophies this season but more than that, the future of some of their best players should be concerning them.
They still have time to take some action in the transfer window but they do not have long left now.
