Bayern Munich may have spent €5 million for nothing. This winter, faced with the absences of Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, the Bavarian club negotiated with Granada the early arrival of Bryan Zaragoza. As a reminder, the young 22-year-old winger was recruited by Munich in exchange for €15 million last December, but he was not due to arrive in Germany until the summer of 2024.
Faced with the physical problems of two of its stars, Bayern finally agreed to pay an additional €5 million to obtain the player’s loan this winter, before having him sign his contract until 2029 next summer. Except that the offensive reinforcement supposed to come and lend a helping hand only played… one match. It was on February 18 during the defeat against Bochum (2-3). That day, Zaragoza only played 28 minutes.
Language problems
Since then, nothing. The Malaga native, however, is not injured. Will his level raise questions? Apparently not. This Friday, Thomas Tuchel finally unraveled the mystery. And the discourse has changed somewhat. Repatriated early to Munich to help a decimated attack, Bryan Zaragoza was ultimately recruited earlier than expected solely for adaptation and language problems.
“He’s missing his language. It is difficult for him to speak English and German, this is an essential factor. We moved the transfer forward to save time. It was already clear that this was a very big step for him. We see it now. We see its qualities, but we also see that the integration is not complete from a linguistic point of view. That’s why it will take some time”, he confided at a press conference. So be patient.
