Bayern Munich will make move for Barcelona defender only under one condition

With the rise of Pau Cubarsi this season, Barcelona’s defensive line seems set for the better part of the next decade.

Jules Kounde is only getting better as a right-back, and is still equally adept as a centre-back. Andreas Christensen, meanwhile, has proven to be one of the most consistent performers for the club and Inigo Martinez has shown ability in line with his experience.

And leading them all, the third-choice captain of Barcelona is Ronald Araujo. The Uruguayan centre-back has been one of the best in his position over the course of the last two season, at least.

However, the rise in prominence has, of course, come with a ton of interest from Europe, that originally started from Premier League clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United before Araujo eventually renewed his contract.

In recent times, though, Bayern Munich have come up with their interest and have been chasing Araujo’s signature for the better part of the last year.

Bayern holding back now

Thomas Tuchel was particularly interested in Bayern pursuing Araujo during the winter transfer window, and then the summer of 2024. However, his departure at the end of the season means the Bavarians will likely change their plans.

SPORT (h/t iMiaSanMia) have reported that Bayer have, as of now, cooled their interest in Araujo, and are not planning to make a move for him.

They will only pursue his signature should they be able to offload one of Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano, or Min-jae Kim.

While de Ligt has been in and out for Bayern Munich since his arrival, Upamecano is considered to be an important player when fit and the German giants seem very happy with Kim’s performance this season after arriving from Napoli.

What does Araujo have in his Barcelona future?

Initially, during the season, there were a lot of reports claiming that Barcelona could be looking to offload Araujo for an appropriate offer, of around €100 million.

However, the Catalans have trusted Araujo with the armband multiple times this season, and want to renew his contract beyond 2026. There were also reports claiming that his agent met with the club, who assured him that they had no plans to sell him in the summer.

Further, the Uruguayan himself has confirmed his intent to stay at the club for as long as possible.

“My family and I are very happy in Barcelona and I always show it every time I wear this shirt. And I will do so until the last day I’m here. I will always give one hundred percent. I don’t see myself outside of Barça,” he said recently.
